In professional boxing, a higher-ranked boxer chooses his opponent among challengers varying in popularity and strength. We build three-stage model of boxing fight between the chooser challenger to examine strategic incentives sharing purse exerting proper level effort. More importantly, we endogenize choice be generated. found that an older who is ready cash reputation tends choose stronger with little effort, while young rising “star” prefers match against weaker opponents.
